Björn Jónsson/Johnson 1859: Moved to Efrahreppí at Skorradal. 1863: father died, joins foster parents Steinolfur Grimsson and Gudrun Gudmundsdottir. 1865: Moved to stay with Pastor Gudlaugs and wife Halldora at Reykholte. 1869-1881: worked and lived in various places. 1881 10 15: married Ólafía, lived with her parents for a year at Kalmannstunga, then for four years at Hamraendum in Storfhollstungum, then to near Reykjavik. 1886 07 04: Sailed for Canada with children Stephanie Jonina (age 2) and Jón (less than one year old); got a job working with the railroad in Portage la Prairie; family lived with friends Olafur Olafson and Helga Gudmundsdottir in Winnipeg. Had to leave job to look after sick friend Freysteinn Jonsson, ended up at Thingvalla, found agricultural work and eventually acquired a farm north of Churchbridge. |
