Jamie naps while his parents eat o-sechi (Japanese New Year's cuisine) at with his great aunts.

What Jamie's mom was eating, and what Jamie was therefore eating indirectly. Not seen: Jamie.

Midway through a messy change and half out of his festive red holiday suit, Jamie briefly considers becoming the emperor of China.

Nobuko and Tomoko say goodbye to Jamie, who has turned into a floppy bunny.

Jamie smiles indulgently at his dad, who has finally remembered what the 'shutter priority mode' is for on his camera. This shot was taken at 1/60 s exposure (with the camera warning "This'll never work!"), F2.6. The raw image is almost black from underexposure, but Photoshop's Auto Levels and a little tweak to the saturation (-20) and lightness (+20) give an acceptable image.

This is another Photoshop exercise, shot at 1/30 s and F2.9, then adjusted manually using the Levels tool at about (0,4,128) to roughly double the brightness and quadruple the contrast. The scene was lit from above by a halogen light, and from below by a television, hence the odd yellow shadows. Oh, and that's Daniel's Aunt Kelly, who loves babies, and whom babies love.

1/30 s, F3.3, effective ISO rating 112, munged with Photoshop's Levels tool. Jamie reposes listening to Jane Siberry's Christmas CD, after soaking in the tub with dad.

Jamie is uncertain how he feels about this excursion.

There must be something wrong with me tonight. I've been staring at this photo, trying to think of a funny caption, and all I can do is go "Aw..." at how cute he is.

Closeup on Jamie's left eye. Our best guess right now is that Jamie will have reddish brown hair, grey eyes, and a complexion that tans easily.

"If I have a poo, I'll have to leave the bassinet with the Polkadots of Pacification."

Kristen looks after Jamie so that John (not pictured) can lose a game.
