EMM 14525 says he married Grace 1743/44 03 12 and that Grace was born "about 1730", which sounds doubtful.

1797 03: Wrote a letter to his son Joseph about the history of his family, which survives. He says he left Virginia when very young, the eldest of six sons and five daughters.

Has an entry in Dictionary of Canadian Biography, Vol. IV 1771-1800.
