Alexander Macgregor

*1610 Belliclone, Maderty Parish, Perthsire, Scotland
+1677

Born a member of the outlawed Highland Clan Gregor. Was sentenced to have his name changed to Alexander MacGroother/MacGruether, settled on Alexander Magruder. Married 1st MB 10448, 2nd SH 19950 (sons James, Samuel and John: only Samuel had issue), 3rd EH 10432. Chamberlain of Drummond family estates in Dunblane parish, Strathallan. Officer in army of King Charles II, captured at the Battle of Worcester on 1651-09-03, sold into servitude the following year and sent to Maryland via Barbados. His descendants here are based on the notes of JC 10005, who in this case appears to have been inaccurate or at least in conflict with current opinion. I'm gradually editing the links.

Sarah Beall
1668-1734

That Sarah was a daughter of NB 10411 is a matter of family tradition. In the late 20th century, this point was disputed, with some genealogists arguing that she was a niece or cousin of NB 10411, while others argued that she was a neighbour's daughter. My understanding is that because of the destruction by fire of key Calvert County records, this question cannot be resolved.
